Yearbook 2020
Zach Underhill and I began the idea of Yearbook 2020 when we were told that we would not be returning to school after spring break back in March. Obviously we had no clue just how bad this year was going to be. What we did know is that we wanted some sort of system to document at least part of what was happening in 2020. It has been a year that seems to top all others even without the pandemic, in terms of world events.
We began breaking down the events of the year and through trial and error created a book that easily documented up until the end of this year. Our goal was to highlight 10 events per month in a simple manner that would allow readers to visually understand as well as have a small excerpt to read. We wanted it to be a series that worked together, as the world did, amongst all the chaos of events that happened over 2020. We used small techniques and attributes in the series of books that come together as a whole to echo the negative and dissolving effects that this year has had on humanity.
It was a tough project in terms of choosing events, documentation style, and trying to be insensitive to location in regards to the events. All together the series stacks on itself in a type of yearbook that we believe resembles the year 2020, as a whole.
